Why should I host a Gloucester Biotechnology Academy co-op?
Through hands-on learning in cutting-edge training labs, Academy students develop molecular biology, cell culture, and biomanufacturing skills for 6 months (480 bench hours) BEFORE starting their co-op (a sample syllabus is available upon request). They also engage in robust career skills training that prepares them for the workplace. This means they are ready to hit the ground running on Day One of a co-op.
How long does the co-op last?
Academy students are required to complete a 3-month, full-time placement to qualify for our certificate. Many students are available for a 6-month (or longer) placement if that’s preferable for the lab.
How much does it cost?
Academy students are paid between $20 – $30 per hour (the recent average is $24/hour). There are no other costs or fees associated with the co-op. The
Massachusetts Life Sciences Center provides co-op reimbursement funds of up to $20/hour for qualifying labs.
What types of labs participate in your program?
Our co-op partners are located in Greater Boston, Metro West, and the North Shore, and include small start-ups, mid- and large-sized companies, and academic institutions.
