Kirk Taylor, MD, Visits GMGI

November 2024

Recently, Kirk Taylor, MD, Massachusetts Life Sciences Center’s new President and CEO, spent an afternoon at GMGI. Together with MLSC’s Vice President of Education and Workforce Programs Ryan Mudawar, Chief of Strategy and Public Affairs Joseph Sullivan, and State Representative Ann-Margaret Ferrante, the group toured GMGI’s two locations, spoke with Academy students about their experiences, learned about our cutting-edge research, and discussed GMGI’s ambitious plans for growth.

“The work that GMGI is doing to train the next generation of lab technicians for Massachusetts’ growing biotech sector and to advance marine research at this time is critical. I am so inspired by the organization’s ambitious mission,” said Dr. Taylor.

MLSC has been a generous strategic partner of GMGI, providing more than $3.5M in funding since 2017. Their support enabled the build-out of the state-of-the-art research institute on Gloucester Harbor and cell culture and biomanufacturing laboratories at the Academy. MLSC also provides funding that enables over 40% of Academy internship opportunities.

“I have always deeply valued our collaboration with MLSC, and together, we have created strong initiatives for underrepresented individuals in STEM,” said Chris Bolzan, GMGI’s Executive Director. “We are so grateful for their commitment to, and generous support of, GMGI’s mission. I very much look forward to working with Dr. Taylor to continue to catalyze our regional economy.”
