[Press release] Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute announces leadership transition

(Gloucester, MA) Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) has announced a transition in the organization’s Executive Director position. Christine Bolzan, who was hired in 2019, will be leaving GMGI at the end of March to assume the position of Vice Chancellor of Experiential Education at Northeastern University.

“The Board, staff and GMGI community are grateful for Chris’s energetic and strategic leadership. We wish her the very best in this exciting new opportunity. Northeastern is lucky to have her, just as we have been,” said Michele May, GMGI Board Chair.

Bonnie Fendrock, a Gloucester resident and biotech veteran, has been named interim Executive Director while the GMGI Board undertakes a patient, diligent search for a permanent leader.

“Bonnie knows GMGI well, having volunteered in our Gloucester Biotechnology Academy and on our Commercialization Committee for the past four years. And as a former CEO and founder of her own biotech companies, Bonnie brings organizational and business development expertise that will provide helpful leverage as GMGI continues to grow and evolve,” said Michele May.

Bonnie Fendrock was the CEO and Co-founder of Cyta Therapeutics, a biotech focused on developing treatments to address obesity. Previous experience includes roles as CEO, President and Co-founder of Hepregen, as well as Vice President, Surgical Products at Genzyme.

Close to home, Bonnie is a Trustee at Awesome Gloucester as well as a Board member and Chair of the Finance Committee at Wellspring on Essex Ave.
